Some Thoughts About Patriotism and the Second Amendment

I was just reading an article in the American Rifle Magazine about giving William B Ruger his due regarding a patent on his transfer bar.

Looking at all these beautiful guns and thinking of the Americans who make them, makes me proud to be a member of the NRA!

This all points to the valiant word "patriotism". Let the Europeans be smug in their socialism. I'm over 60 years old, was in the army, and I have 18, wonderful grandchildren. They are taught by solid patriots (their parents), and every grandchild will tell you (when they start to talk!) that the two main things they are taught by their parents are the love of God and patriotism.

1. I will always love my God.
2. I will always have my guns.
3. I will always be a patriot.
4. I will always be an AMERICAN!

Papa's Walking Stick

Well, I finished it! I made a walking cane for myself. I've been making canes and walking sticks since I was a young man of 28. I made one for my beautiful dad years ago. He died in 1986. Then Julie's dad suffered a severe stroke in 1976. I made him a wonderful cane, then went to a German engraver who put a rosebud and the name "Bud" on a gold plate that I fixed to the cane. I've made a lot of walking sticks for whomever wanted them, but my special one was made for my dear, twin sister (she's a SSND).
On Thursday, while I was putting those scary faces on trees with two of Laura's dollies. My knee went out again and I fell headfirst on to the lawn! Julie and the kids helped me get up. Last week, my big son (6'4", 274 lbs) took me fishing. He had to help me in the boat, but my knee gave out and I fell again. Last fall, while hunting deer on Nick's land, I saw two sticks that were perfect to make in to walking sticks. I brought them home but left them in my suburban. After these three falling incidents, I knew it was time to make a walking stick for myself. Well, I did.
I guess I'm officially an old man.

A Bit About Papa

I was a young, strong farmboy born in the 40's and worked hard on our big farm. I played football and basketball in high school, did my time in the army (tanker), then went to the U of M to get a degree in history.

Fr. Corapi Says:

Do you know that during the week of 911 there was not ONE abortion in the city of New York and that they broke the record for the most confessions in a single week?

Papa's Mind is at Ease

We are soon getting a German archbishop for the archdiocese of St. Paul MN. Three cheers! Hopefully he'll obey our wonderful Pope Benedict XVI and the magisterium. I was talking to some seminarians who were so enthralled when Cardinal Ratzinger was elected to carry on the work of saintly JPII that they had a "German Party" on the roof of one of the seminary buildings. He said they had bratwurst and beer. But the beer was root beer. Nearly all of these young men are full of love for the Eucharist and the Church. My dear seminarian friend said that they are all solid, good Catholics. All of these young men are going to the seminary right after the insidious scandal by some bishops and priests. How brave and gracious they are. These new seminarians and the young, conservative priests that we have now put my mind and heart at ease knowing that Christ was right, the Church will go on until the end of time. I worry about my grandkids a lot, but the new priests and seminarians give me hope. My wife and I still pray for the seminarians and young priests every day to maintain the wonderful traditions of the Church of Rome.

Memorial Day

It's Memorial Day again and our thoughts turn to our brave soldiers and sailors who have, over the years fought, and in many cases, died for our freedoms. However, there are elected officials in both our state and federal government that scare me and many like thinking people who have an eye on history.
Eduard Bernstein, an intellectual communist philosopher of the 19th and early 20th centuries maintained at that time that capitalism was not showing signs of collapse, as Marx had predicted (time had indeed proven Marx wrong). Bernstein along with other Utopian intellectual thinkers proposed that all that was required was a progressive and peaceful transition toward socialism with the working class “slowly learning the process of democracy and liberty.”
Those further left of Bernstein politically such as Lenin, Nacheav et. al. believed it took revolution with terror and the other things associated with it. Nacheav, at that time wrote… “No one who feels pity for anything or anyone can truly be called a revolutionary.” Sounds a bit like the terrorists of today. Thank God this latter form of communism has proven an utter failure throughout the world with only North Korea and Cuba still holding on to the last remnants of this awful form of government. However, Bernstein’s form of communism has made inroads with the modern left intellectuals and politicians. This modern day socialism has been making some dramatic advances in to our lives through the election of democrats who are off the chart to the left politically. The new left social democrats are following Bernstein’s form of communism to a “t”. We are indeed now making that “peaceful transition towards socialism for the working class”. This is affecting our lives and our freedoms. The left have persuaded many in the middle class that taxes are good. As a result many tax crazed politicians were elected this past November. Our freedoms, fought for so gallantly by our veterans, are being attacked daily. The left is going after our Bill of Rights. Their skewed idea of freedom of speech has made shambles of the 1st Amendment. The new crop of leftist now presiding in Washington DC are determined to disfigure the wording of this amendment also. They would like to change, to their liking what is left of the citizen’s right of protection and sport. The horrid practice of partial birth abortion has made a shambles of those beautiful words…”The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We must protect and defend our beautiful constitution. We must stay vigilant. We must hold on to the rights that we have left. We cannot afford to give a power base to the leftist social democrats. Think of our war veterans the next time you enter a polling booth!
